Using various methods over the past 3 years, panoramas are now essentially created from three fish-eye images, taken 120 degrees from each other using a specially mounted camera on a tripod. This mounting ensures that the camera rotates about the nodal point of the camera/lens setup. The three images are then processed by PTGui and saved as a layered tiff file. The image is then edited in Photoshop to finalise it, reduce it in size, unsharp mask and check the colour. The resultant jpeg is viewed as an equirectangular image in PTViewer.
